Reno Shooter Dies from Injuries, Killing 3 & Injuring 3 Others

Dakota Hawveropened fire on casino visitors and guests at the Grand Sierra Resorts & Casino in Reno, Nevada, on Monday, July 28, killing 3 peopleand injuring 3 others. Police were dispatched on-site and managed to shoot and injure him, ngaking the man to the hospital, along with the other victims.

Perpetrator Dies from Injuries in Hospital

While the three injured people are expected to make a full recovery or have already been discharged, Hawver himself succumbed to his injuries on Thursday, July 31. The young man, aged only 26, opened fire for unknown motives, and there has been no connection between him and any of the victims.

This is one of the few recent cases to have involved mass shootings in the United States, including that committed by Shane Tamura, a 27-year-old Las Vegas resident who killed four people before shooting himself in a Manhattan skyscraper.

Tamura committed his crime only hours after Hawver’s case became known. As to Hawver’s victims, two of them were identified as Justin Aguilaand Andrew Canepa, both 33, who were shot in the back while awaiting an airport ride to attend a bachelor party. They were from Southern California.

Things Could Have Gone Much Worse for Visitors

Their identity was originally confused in previous reporting. The third victim in the Hawver’s shooting was 66-year-old Renoresident Angel Martinez, who was killed in his car and died on the spot after he was shot.

Hawver’s act could have left many more injured. Luck and coincidence have allowed people to evacuate and escape a much higher body count. Originally, Hawver’s weapons misfired, but in the end, he was able to shoot 80 roundsfrom a 9mm handgun.

The weapon was bought legally, giving rise to concerns that potentially dangerous people are securing gun ownership.
