Michigan Sentences Two Men for Running an Illegal Gambling Operation

Illegal gambling has continued to proliferate in the state of Michigan, with the local gambling regulator and law enforcement hot on the heels of underground operations.

Pair Who Run Illegal Gambling Venue to Dodge Prison Sentence

The latest enforcement action to have targeted unauthorized gambling involves the cases of Samir Naim Musharbash and Naim Samir Musharbash, who were running an illegal gambling venue, fittingly called Spin to Win. Authorities arrested the pair in 2021 and sentenced them on Wednesday, July 23, 2025.

“During the raid, investigators seized 17 standalone slot-style gaming machines and multiple computer towers and monitors used to facilitate internet-based slot-style games,” the Michigan Gaming Control Board said in an official release, detailing the case and what led to the men’s arrests.

Investigators were able to seize $7,986 in cash, and the move highlighted the regulator and law enforcement’s commitment to ensuring that illegal gambling operations are dismantled, as confirmed by the Michigan Gaming Control Board executive director, b.

“We remain committed to protecting Michigan residents by enforcing regulations that ensure all gaming is fair, legal, and authorized,”he added. Following their arrest in 2021, the pair faced the Jackson County Circuit Court, which ruled that each of the two culprits ought to serve two years of probation and 180 days of jail time.

The 180 days of jail time were suspended by Circuit Judge John McBain, meaning that should they not break the law in any other way, they would not see the inside of a jail any time soon. The pair was ordered to pay $558 in costs and fines as well.

Not All Culprits Have It So Easy in the End

However, an employee, Kyle Schrotenboer, would have to spend 90 days in jail after his sentencing in May. He will also have to pay $575 in fines, costs, and fees. Schroetenboer pled guilty in March to one count of keeping a gambling house and was sentenced in May.

The Michigan Gaming Control Board continues to crack down on illegal gambling, highlighting the need for closer cooperation between the watchdog’s all investigative units and state authorities. Despite the Great Lakes’ enjoying a full range of gambling options, underground operations continue to proliferate.
