Fashion Statement Got Vegas Visitor Beaten, Lawsuit Claims

Issues with security guards in tourism-heavy areas are nothing new. One Las Vegasvisitor, however, has now filed a lawsuit that alleges security personnel beat him up for wearing his pants too low.

A Senseless Act of Violence  

As reported by the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Javier Marquezwas visiting The Venetianwith his wife. The two wanted to celebrate the man’s birthday and got an unforgettable experience but not in the way they envisioned.

On November 6, 2022, Marquez, who had been wearing his pants sagged below his waist, as a fashion statement, was approached by two security officers. The officers, who believed that Marquez was “exposing himself,” offered to accompany him back to his hotel room.

When the man declined the assistance, he was restrained and forced into a wheelchair. The lawsuit alleged that soon after that, a third security officer came and the three pushed Marquez onto the pavement with excessive force. As a result, the visitor suffered injuries to his head, face, jaw, teeth and eye. He even lost several teeth in the incident.

In addition to the officers, the lawsuit also named the manager on dutyat the time as a defendant, alleging that it was their job to file a report about the incident.

Curiously, the lawsuit also named Las Vegas Sandsas a defendant, even though the aforementioned incident is said to have occurred seven months after the company sold The Venetian to Apollo Global Capital.

The Man Was Traumatized

The lawsuit alleged that the beating took a toll on Marquez. It claimed that Marquez woke from a coma two days later. However, he received lasting psychological wounds because of the humiliation and shock.

More concerningly, the complaint said that the man experienced significant cognitive decline in the aftermath and is now struggling with certain tasks. As a result, his business has since declined, causing his family financial hardship.

Nancy Marquezjoined her husband’s lawsuit as a plaintiff. According to the complaint, she also suffered from the traumatic event and her man’s crushed confidence. Ms. Marques added that she is now burdened by her husband’s lasting pain and is no longer able to experience his companionship and comfort.

This complaint follows another recent lawsuit, in which the plaintiff complaint that he was stung by a scorpion at the property.
